The Pixelated Log project.

This photograph shows the Spruce log which I am pixelating sculpturally; screwing hundreds of wooden squares (pixels) to the surface.
When photographed at a distance of 400 feet the large log appears as a grid of pixels like this:

This image comprises of these 32 colours:

Each wooden tile will be painted one of these 32 colours, so that at the point where 20 20 vision deteriorates and the pixels begin to blur together the pixelated log will just appear as a log, in the same resolution as it's environment.
In the foreground you see a small version of the big log, laying on the grass:

This bronze version of the pixelated log was made using computer data. After collecting spatial data in the field I constructed a computer model designed to comprise of the correct amount of pixels:

This was then printed on the ZCORP 3D printer using a starch material which was subsequently cast into bronze using a lost-wax investment technique. The old and the new, to say the least.

This bronze has not received it's final patina or finish.
